Announcement of the First International Conference of the Awez Project
In light of the prevalent misunderstanding regarding the nexus of power and knowledge within a significant portion of Kurdish intellectual discourse—a phenomenon inherently tied to Kurdish postmodernist trends—the Awez Project seeks to intervene. Viewing the Kurdish nation as an authentic entity deserving of modern, progressive governance, the project aims to transcend these misconceptions through its epistemic and intellectual endeavors. In doing so, it seeks to pinpoint and address the issues and complexities continuously exacerbated by Kurdish postmodern discourse.
To this end, and driven by a sense of epistemic and intellectual responsibility, the Awez Project is pleased to announce an international conference on the theme of "Knowledge and Power," scheduled for April 2026. The event will feature the participation of a distinguished group of Kurdish and international scholars.
We invite esteemed researchers and scholars to submit their scientific papers, adhering to the scope of the conference themes and the submission guidelines of the Awez Journal, to one of the following email addresses:
Submission Deadline: March 31, 2026.
All accepted papers will be published as the special dossier of Issue 7 of the Awez Journal.
General Conference Themes:
Knowledge and Power: What is the nature of power? Is power inherently positive or negative?
Criticism and Power: How does the power-knowledge equation manifest itself? What epistemic background must a critical perspective on power possess? What does knowledge reveal regarding tribal and distorted views on power?
Philosophy and Power: What are the philosophical implications of Kurdish liberation from the tyrannical power structures of West Asia?
Ethics and Power: How is civic ethics defined in relation to power within a geography often characterized by a void of ethical norms?
Rationality and Power: To what extent does rationality pave the way for power to advance towards freedom for the individual and society? What form of rationality is emancipatory for Kurdish society and governance?
